7 Day Tromsø Winter Itinerary

Ah, you're embarking on an adventure to Norway! What wonders will you discover? Which breathtaking destinations will you explore?  Immerse yourself in our curated suggestions, each crafted to enhance your journey through the majestic Norwegian Arctic.

Day 1: Exploring the ‘Paris of the North’

Tromsø has a charming city center that can be explored on foot. Stroll through the streets lined with colorful houses and stop at one of the many cafes for a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Make sure to visit the iconic Arctic Cathedral and take in its unique architecture.

In the evening, head to one of the local restaurants for some incredible Norwegian cuisine before wandering in the dark to watch for Northern Lights.

Day 2: Winter Wonderland Dog Sledding

Your Tromsø adventure begins with a self-drive husky dog sledding experience. The dog sledding excursion takes you through majestic mountains. You'll spend three hours at the kennel, learning about the dogs, cuddling with them, and embarking on a 90-minute sled ride. Enjoy hot drinks and homemade cake before returning to Tromsø.

Upon your return, enjoy a dinner in town. Ensure you spend time outside watching for the enchanting Northern Lights.

Day 3: Frozen Fjord Tour & Whale Watching

The second leg of your adventure begins as you set sail from Tromsø harbor on a Polar Fjord Cruise. The yacht cruises to areas where whales have been sighted and breathtaking Arctic scenery awaits. You'll search for orcas, humpback whales, and other marine mammals, but our fjord cruise is not focused on whale watching. Occasionally we spot dolphins and seals and lots of birds like eagles and eider ducks, but rarely whales. This cruise is focused on the beautiful sea-to-summit views within Balsfjord and local guiding, and people can upgrade to the hot tub and take the polar plunge (jump off the boat into the ocean).

The short daylight hours create a unique "blue-light" ambiance, adding to the magic of your experience. With the day dedicated to whale watching, your chances of encountering these majestic creatures are high.

Upon your return, savor a traditional Norwegian dinner or modern twist at one of the great local restaurants. Make sure to spend some time outdoors, gazing at the mesmerizing Northern Lights.

Day 4: Cod Fishing in Tromsø

Embark on an unforgettable 6-hour Arctic fishing journey in Tromsø, where the thrill of deep-sea fishing meets the serene beauty of a luxurious fjord cruise in Norway's Arctic waters.

Savor the exquisite flavors of seafood canapés, fresh fish soup, and hot drinks aboard a spacious, luxury sailing yacht. Optionally, relax in a hot tub, enjoy personalized service, and sail through pristine fjords with a small group of like-minded adventurers.

No fishing experience is necessary—our seasoned skipper and crew are there to assist you every step of the way! Typical catches during this season include cod, pollock, haddock, halibut, and redfish.

Spend the day at Pust Nordic Sauna , a traditional Nordic spa located in breathtaking Arctic scenery. The facility offers saunas, hot tubs, and plunge pools with stunning views of the Northern Lights (if you're lucky!).

After a day of relaxation, embark on a Northern Lights Cruise where luxury meets adventure. Witness the awe-inspiring Aurora Borealis as you sail through pristine Arctic waters Indulging in a delectable traditional reindeer stew that warms you up and delights the palate.

After an evening of stargazing, relax in the hot tub, enveloped by the tranquil beauty of the Arctic night.

Day 6: Sami Culture & Reindeer Magic

Embark on Sami reindeer sledding and immerse yourself in a vibrant cultural experience. Visit the Sami Reindeer Camp, savor a traditional meal cooked over an open fire, and enjoy captivating stories and joik songs. Spend time with the reindeer and take a sleigh ride through the snowy landscape.

In the evening, head back to Tromsø for some shopping at one of the local boutiques or markets. Pick up traditional Norwegian souvenirs such as hand-knitted sweaters or locally-made crafts.
